Most parking decal prices double

ASU is more than doubling the prices for some parking lots and structures for next year. The University announces its new parking decal rates today. Parking decal renewal begins Monday. The parking rates for the 2006-07 school year will range from $150 to $540. Parking rates ranged from $75 to $240 this year.

Linda Riegel, Parking and Transit Services director, said the increase in rates was needed to improve PTS. "At the current rates, we are not able to manage the current deficits in the parking program," she said.

Mamacita's Cantina puts new spin on familiar location north of campus

While many students left Tempe for Mexico over Spring Break, a local restaurant did a quick change to bring a bit of Mexico to Tempe. Mamacita's Cantina, formerly Daisy Dukes, opened its doors March 13 at 222 E. University Drive. The restaurant offers a Mexican-themed menu and atmosphere, said owner Tony Petz. "We've already made it different," he said. "We're going to keep enhancing and growing."

Sophomore Willy Fox makes contact with a pitch at the Challenge at Chase against UA Sunday.
After a weekend that included light outages, snow and flight complications, the No. 13 ASU baseball team will happily return home for a three-game series against Washington. Unfortunately, it will have to go up against one of the best pitchers in the country in Husky junior Tim Lincecum.

"This kid is the most dominant pitcher since [former USC pitcher Mark] Prior," ASU coach Pat Murphy said. Lincecum is coming off an 18-strikeout, two-hit performance against UCLA as he went on to win his sixth game of the year.

Bigger Than Hip-Hop

On the cover
Hip-hop is making a name for itself in the Valley thanks to a collective of musicians and artists known as Universatile Music. Acting as both a record label and promotion company, UM was founded in 1999 by ASU alum Michael Horowitz and DJ Pickster One.

UM's current lineup includes recording artists Anglo-Saxon, Brad B, The Drunken Immortals, Jawa, Foundation, Pickster One, Skip Skoolnik, Mic Cause, Deeskee, Morse Code, Die Young, and visual artists Jim Mahfood, Fyce, Dumperfoo, David Joseph Perez, Jay Fotos, Lalo, Matt Dickson, and Jeltsoe. "It all kind of came about through skateboarding," Horowitz says. "I started getting into hip-hop, started hanging out at local hip-hop nights and chilling pretty tough with Morse Code, Pickster and the Drunken Immortals.

The modernist movement is alive and kicking in Phoenix. It's a sneaky little thing, but if you know what you're looking for, you see it everywhere. Modern design is a 20th-century movement. Its mission statement, according to the Design Within Reach Web site, is "to utilize current technologies and production methods to create more useful products for a broad audience."
