Homegrown band The Format will return to its Valley roots Thursday night for a performance at the ASU Arboretum.

The Peoria-bred group will play at ASU in conjunction with the Programming and Activities Board concert series.

PAB President Andrew Moe said he is excited about bringing such a well-known band to campus.

"They are a great local group, but also a national act," he said. "They bring local flavor to the national scene at ASU."

Moe said The Format was part of "a package deal" with the Jason Mraz concert, which PAB hosted in September.

PAB had originally hoped to bring The Format to campus during homecoming week, but because the band was recording their next album, they had to change the date, Moe said.

"We called their managers and were told they would be coming to Arizona in November anyway," he said.

The Format had already scheduled a concert at NAU for Nov. 8 and at UA on Nov. 9.

Journalism sophomore Allie Wester bought her ticket the day after they went on sale to make sure she wouldn't miss out.

"I think they're one of the best local bands Arizona has to offer," she said. "They have the potential to be really big after their next album. So who knows, it might be one of the last times I get to see [them] in a more intimate setting."

Tickets will be sold at Gammage Auditorium until the start of the concert, or until 1,500 tickets are sold. As of Tuesday, 1,252 had already been distributed.

Student tickets are $12 with a valid ASU ID and $17 for the general public.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. with local bands Ticker Tape Parade and It's Like Love.
