Nursing college raises mental-health awareness

Students and families participated in the Keep Your Children/Yourself Safe & Secure Across America Walk-a-thon Saturday. The event was sponsored in part by ASU's College of Nursing.
Ryan Antokal has seen first hand how difficult mental illness can be. Antokal, a nursing senior at the Polytechnic campus, has worked with people affected by mental illness as part of his psychological rotations.

Muslims invite peers to fast

With a drink of water and a few dates, Stacy Hettmansperger ended her first successful day of fasting for Ramadan.

"I tried last year, but I didn't make it," said Hettmansperger, a political science sophomore. "I only lasted until 3 [p.m.]."

Bilingual magazine makes comeback

A student-published bilingual magazine released its first issue in a year Saturday night -- the last day of Hispanic Heritage Month -- with what the director calls a new, edgier, more risque feel.

Volleyball: Devils fall to No. 3 Stanford

The ASU volleyball team fell to third-ranked Stanford in straight sets in front of a vocal crowd of 1,082 at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday night.

The match (22-30, 23-30, 19-30) pushes the team's losing streak to six. ASU's last win came on Sept. 23 against Oregon.

Soccer: Devils net two wins in Washington

Junior goalkeeper Kim Bingham and the ASU defense earned their second shutout in three games when they defeated Washington on Sunday.

On the cover
John Tyler watches people walk by him as he sits near the fireplace inside the Memorial Union. He scrounges through his backpack, looking for his Japanese notes so he can study.

His thin body is engulfed by the chair as he searches through his textbook. Tyler takes off his sweat-stained ASU hat and reveals his jet-black hair as he scratches his head. The Japanese class is just one of the classes he is taking to complete a degree in English literature.

My self-confidence is based on my clothing. My outfits are typically matched and styled for every occasion. I often feel the need to change my clothes a couple of times per day, because after a couple of hours I grow tired of my outfit. It's a sickness, honestly.
