There's just something about a family-owned restaurant that we love. Aside from delicious food and a friendly atmosphere, it feels good to support our neighbors.

1. Otto's Pizza and Pastry (804 S. Ash Ave.):

If you want a pizza smothered in cheese, greasy goodness and handmade flavor, Otto's is the place to go.

2. Haji Babaa Middle Eastern Restaurant (513 E. Apache Blvd.):

It's hard not to fall in love with a place that offers a delicious meal in under 10 minutes and the 'queen' baklava for dessert.

3. Kohi Noor Cuisine of India (1043 E. Lemon St.):

Not only do you get a filling meal for under six bucks at Kohi Noor, but you can also enjoy an unlimited variety of Hindi television and movies with your food.

4. Char's Thai Restaurant (967 E. University Drive):

One of the first Thai restaurants in all of Phoenix, Char's has been around since our parents were students at ASU.

5. Plaid Eatery (1044 S. Terrace Road):

Plaid is the perfect place to eat while you study, or just grab a small sandwich, chips, coffee or beer with friends.
