On to the College World Series

FULLERTON, Calif. -- Cal State Fullerton had every reason to head into its NCAA baseball Super Regionals matchup against ASU brimming with confidence.

After all, this was the same Sun Devil squad that the Titans had knocked out of the postseason each of the previous two seasons. It was an ASU team that had more freshmen, less talent and a shoddier record than in either of those years.

Riding out light rail

Business owners are trying to combat roadblocks and traffic problems with discounts and new marketing strategies as light-rail construction creeps into Tempe.

Phoenix business owners have been dealing with light rail since construction began in March. Doug Klinge, owner of the card and gift shop Unique on Central in Phoenix, said he has attempted to draw in additional business by emphasizing coupons in his advertising.

Students help stores cope with construction

As light-rail construction shakes up the valley, ASU business students are stepping in to keep small operations on track.

This summer, seven honors business students are working with the Center for the Advancement of Small Business to help valley businesses combat the effects of Valley Metro Light Rail construction.

ASU baseball goes 3-0 at Tempe Regional

Members of the ASU baseball team celebrate after winning the Tempe Regional with a 9-5 win over Coastal Carolina Sunday.
Jason Urquidez took care of business on Friday night. Erik Averill did likewise on Saturday. And when a group of "Bs" - Tony Barnette, Pat Bresnehan and Brett Bordes - delivered on Sunday, it was on to the Super Regional for the No. 2 seed ASU baseball team.

Buoyed by the pitching performances of its staff, ASU romped through the Tempe Regional with three straight wins to become one of the remaining 16 tournament teams. It will face off against the winner of the Cal State Fullerton Regional next weekend.

Sun Devils to face rival in Super Regional

Shakespeare himself couldn't have done a much better job writing this script.

With its victory over Coastal Carolina on Sunday, the ASU baseball team advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Super Regionals, where it will face off against one of two teams - either UA or Cal State Fullerton.

Jolie, Pitt get spicy in 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith'

There is a scene in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" where Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt take off two mannequin's outfits and fit perfectly into them. Need I say more? They look perfect and are perfect for one another. Of course, Jennifer Aniston could probably fit into a mannequin's outfit, but it looks so good on Jolie.

This movie will make you ask yourself, "Why was I keeping up with the Joneses all of this time when I could have been keeping up with the Smiths?"

Around the Dial: Don't head 'Into the West' just yet

I hope the rest of the new miniseries "Into the West," which will air for six weekends beginning Friday on TNT, isn't as boring as the first two episodes.

The series summarizes the years from 1825 to 1890. The Gold Rush, the Transcontinental Railroad and the Indian Wars were important parts of Western history in the 1800s, but there is none of this happening in the beginning of "Into the West."
