Prescott wins Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences

Edward Prescott, the W. P. Carey Chair of Economics, has been awarded the 2004 Nobel Prize in economic sciences, marking the first-ever Nobel Prize earned by an ASU scholar. Prescott shares the prestigious award with Norwegian Finn Kydland, an economics professor at Carnegie Mellon University.

Witenhafer quits role in church

An ASU employee who was arrested in Austin last month resigned from his position within the Living Hope Community Church. Dale Witenhafer officially stepped down from his position last week within the church, which sponsors the ASU student worship group The Rock, said church elder Mike Keator.

Soccer takes 2 games into OT

Ninety minutes would not be enough in both contests for the women's soccer team's (5-6-1, 1-0-1) opening weekend of Pac-10 conference play. The Sun Devils managed to tie the streaking No. 4 Washington Huskies (9-1-1, 0-1-1) 3-3 Friday and then go on to steal a 2-1 win against Washington State (5-5-2, 0-2-0) Sunday with just 20 seconds left in the final overtime period.

Men, women place 2nd at cross country meet

In a tune-up for Saturday's NCAA Pre-National Meet in Indiana, the ASU men's and women's cross country teams each finished in second place at the Arizona State Invitational at Kiwanis Park on Friday.

The Sun Devils chose to race their "B" squad, saving the regular starters for next week.
