Tempe spells out safety message

Traffic passes under the new lit up drinking and driving sign at the corner of Mill Avenue and Apache Boulevard. The sign was installed on June 23 due to public pressure.
"Don't Drink and Drive" is a message ASU students received in the form of a 4-by-10 foot sign this summer at Mill Avenue and Apache Boulevard.

The City of Tempe Public Works Division installed the blue-lighted street sign at the traffic light that curves around Grady Gammage Auditorium.

Freshmen meal plan gaining steam

In two months, ASU officials could make mandatory meal plans a reality for freshmen starting in fall 2006.

ASU President Michael Crow will likely propose a mandatory meal plan to the Arizona Board of Regents at its October meeting, said Sally Ramage, associate vice president of Student Affairs and director of Student Development and Memorial Union.

After the ASU football team suffered through a dismal 5-7 record last season, many critics expected head coach Dirk Koetter to make sweeping changes to his coaching staff, particularly on defense.

But Koetter decided to stay with "his guys," and coordinator Brent Guy returns at the helm of the defense.

Football: Oliver out for season

Senior cover cornerback R.J. Oliver will miss the entire 2004 season after tearing ligaments that connect his toe to his left foot during the final scrimmage at Camp Tontozona on Friday. It happened while he was defending a pass.
